Introduction...

Postby OldsD88 on Tue Sep 09, 2008 9:29 pm

Let me join in here, and intro myself. My name is Dave Yaros. I am located in Milwaukee, WI. I do not have a 60 Olds, BUT I DID! It was a Super 88 SeniCoupe. You can read all about it on the "Features" page; manual (synchromesh) trans.

Currently I own a 62 Dynamic 88 convertible. You can check it out on my Saved 62 website, http://www.freewebs.com/jeandaveyaros.

I still lust after the 60, intend to partake of the offerings here, and will be glad to contribute in whatever way I can.

Good to be here!

Welcome aboard, Dave! I split your intro...it's ok to have your own too :). I took a look at your '62...man, that's a beautiful machine :P . If I could have any other car, a '62 Olds would be really high on my list...I love early '60s GM cars, and that's one of the best. Amazing condidtion too. I remember during my first year in college there was a red '62 that wasn't far from my house...man, I wanted that thing. Awesome cars for sure!
And I'm sure you'll find that '60...they're still out there. I'm sure you check ePay...I see quite a few of them in there. There's also a 4 door S88 in the classified section here, but it's in MA...
Anyway, welcome!! Hope to see a lot of you here.
Cheers,
Scott

Scott,

Thanks for the welcome. I am glad Dan turned me on to this site.

As for finding a 60, finding one is not the problem. My problem is one of where do I put it. My car corral currently houses a 2007 Toyota, a 1997 Nissan KingCab, a 1963 Corvair Monza conv. and the 1962 Olds Dynamic 88 conv. To compound the circumstances, I only have a 3-car garage! The problem is not one of cars, it is of having a place to put 'em all.

Hmmm...that is a problem :P . There are always those "shelters" you can put up in a day, but they're really not ideal for anything other than temporary storage. We've got a '99 Caravan, '96 Contour, my '60 Olds, and a '55 Willys Jeep. Technically, you could call my garage a two car unit but it's got a sliding barn door so you can really only park one car in there. The Olds lives in there...the other half of the garage has a bunch of Jeep stuff in it--the tub, engine, trans/transfer case/pto, plus my engine crane etc. For a while the jeep lived in the other half...

Image

It was a real trick scooting the thing over there. I took the whole thing apart there...

Image

The Jeep project got sidelined when my our second boy came along. It's still sitting there in parts waiting for the day when I have both more time and money to work on it... Someday :P .

Hmm, my garage needs to be practical. It's a two and one half car with an additional "shed" through the back side. (I keep all my bikes-ten speeds, camp gear, lawn mower etc. The '60 stay at home during the winter. My '97 Toyota goes to a barn about forty five minutes away from late Oct thru Mid April. I do have to say, it was a nice break to have the car someplace for the winter last season. Both of the daily drivers were in the garage during a crappy ass winter.
Dave and Jean are a kick. Did Dave tell the story about the problems with the Olds addition part of his garage? Great story. Glad he got the third bay.
By the way, if you remember, I had a problem with my wiper arm... Dave fixed it.

Dan,

Pray tell, which problem would that be? The need for the zoning variance, the interminable length of time it took the contractor to start the project and complete it, or his attempt to jack me on the price to have the overhead door follow the roof line instead of making the usual 90 degree turn at the top of the door frame?

Ah, it was an experience from start to finish, for sure! What Dan has not mentioned is the really neat toy in the added 3rd bay. I have a 2-post asymmetric Mohawk (U.S. made) lift. Will try to attach a pic of it to this message.

[- Well, I tried, but apparently do not have the auhority to do so? Here is what happened: Could not upload attachment to ./files/1411_7e350bdd32a18e449a8af23030626584. -]

It is the "cat's meow!" I also have a Porter-Cable 60 gal. 7 hp. air compressor plumbed with 4 different hook ups. It is a pretty good place to work on cars, I have to say.

Sounds like a nice setup!! I helped a friend build his shop a few years ago, and he eventually put a lift in on the bays. The air compressor makes me jealous for sure...I don't actually have anything at all right now  . I guess I'm lucky out here...there really aren't too many restrictions on building, and half the time I think people around here don't even get a permit.

On the file attachment...I'm not sure, but I'm working on it. The easiest thing to do is still just use photobucket or any of the other image hosting sites...
