So, I turn to all youse.
Any good tricks or tips to paint these things?
Do you have the type of rings that have little rectangular depressions sort of radiating out from the center of the ring?
There's a couple of ways I can think of to do it...unfortunately I can't think of any easy
ways to do it.
First way would be use a small/fine artists' brush and bottle of enamel paint to do it by hand. That's how I did the "rocket" emblems that go between the headlights and on the trunk handle. It's tough to get the paint to lay down perfectly flat though, and you might end up with tiny brush marks. Not that anyone would notice...unless they were sniffing your wheels or something
Method two would be time consuming, but the results might be worth it. Get some thin masking tape (like 1/4") from a paint and body shop, mask the whole thing off, and then spray it. Masking it would take a long time...it's one of those things you can do while you sit in front of a TV though. I did this when I painted the grill for my '60...I taped off every one of the little chrome "bars" and then sprayed the whole thing. It came out great
. I don't know for sure what the original finish was like, but I think it was probably either a semi-flat or satin type black.
Anyone else have any ideas?
