50th Anniversary NAOC National Meet

Just wanted to write a note about what I learned about next year when our cars are 50 years old.
I think we should try to have a get together in Lansing in honor of the 50th. I have learned that OCA is having their National meet somewhere out east, I knew but I forgot where, it will come to me. It is not on their web site yet.
NAOC National meet will be in Lansing and the feature car will be the 60 Olds. I have a printed flyer. The date is July 7-10-2010. The location is the Lansing Lexington Hotel, (formerly Sheraton Hotel) at I-496 & Creyts Road. This is the west side of Lansing. Check the NAOC web site for more info.
A little info about the Oldsmobile Clubs.
First there is the 1960 Oldsmobile Club that has been run for years by Dick & Sandy Major for the Cadillac Michigan area. They have aided many owners world wide to locate parts and services. It is not a very formal club, dues are $15.00 per year and the news letter each month is written by a different owner.
Then there is the Oldsmobile Club of America (OCA). The largest of the clubs with many local chapters and chapters with special interest cars, Hurst Olds, Curved Dash Olds, Starfire Olds; and others. The Cutlass is the biggest group of cars at all events.
The last one I will mention is (NAOC) the National Antique Oldsmobile Club. This club limits Oldsmobiles from 1897 thru 1966. The meets are not dominated by the Cutlass at meets, and I thick there are more cars from the 30s, 40s, 50s; and 60s at the national meets.
I hope we could get a good turn out of 60s, and if we start early to spread the word it should help with people planning to attend. If we could get some idea of attendance we could plan a get together at the hotel Friday evening, as Saturday night is the banquet.
I live in northern Illinois about 280 miles and 4 ½ hours driving time from Lansing Michigan. I plan on leaving for Lansing on Wed. July 7; possibly on Tuesday the 6th.
I would like to propose a group gathering in my area to travel together to Lansing. I am located 2 miles off I-90 and there is motels and camping within 3 miles. I can help with any planning for the convoy or gathering in Lansing. I would like some feed back on this idea.

I've got a couple e-mails in to NAOC...I'll let you know what I find out. I'd like to update the home page, and add a featured page with info on what's happening for the 50th. I'll contact OCA and see if they're doing anything as well. If there was any way for me to get over there I'd love to go, but I just don't see that being in the cards . I'll do whatever I can to promote any events for the 50th though... Maybe someone can wear a t-shirt for me...I can make one that says "Scott couldn't make it, but I told him I'd wear this shirt for him. Go Olds '60!" . Anyway, if anyone else has any info feel free to share as well. I'll let you guys know when I hear back from NAOC...

By the time you arrive, we shall have been there for 24 hrs.

Are you driving through Chicago, or taking the ferry? I need to look up the cost for the Lake Express?

We're going with the ferry. It's pretty pricy but, we save quite a bit of time and frustration. Total drive time will be less than six hours, compared to something like 12-13. Distance is greatly reduced. All totalled, I think I'm spending $100.oo more to ferry back n forth. (gas for 600+ miles can get 'spensive, not to mention wear n tear.)
I'm hoping that a group of us can meet a few blocks away and all cruise in at once. A grand entrance!
We already have our tickets. Got 'em on line.

I hear you about the time and traffic. Even so, $300 Roundtrip, plus the cost of the room and meet events is a bit too steep of a price for me to pay. Plus, I enjoy having my car out on the open road. We shall see if I still feel that way on arrival in Lansing?

I have to wonder if we are going to the same location? I say that as, all the info I have indicates the total distance 1-way is 300 miles. That equates to a 5 hour drive in ideal conditions. I do not see how/why it would ever take anyone 12-13 hrs. to get to Lansing, MI from Milwaukee?

Round trip brother...
I'm only driving five vs. twelve or so, depending on Chicago etc. As for the distance, 300 or so each way equals around 600 plus. Mixed driving, plus stops, I'm guessing twelve hours 'round trip.

R-T, ok, I got you. I spent this weekend cleaning, polishing and waxing my ride in prep for the trip. Right now, one may literally use the hood and trunk as shaving mirrors! This weekend she will get an oil change. After the meet we shall be driving on to Windsor, ONT Canada to visit with friends for a few days, before returning home.

By now you know, we did NOT make it to Lansing for the NAOC Nats. Why, you might ask? Unfortunately, on 28 Jean my wife broke her ankle, necessitating surgery on 7 Jul, the day we were to arrive in Lansing.

While our car was fully prepped (new door panels, armrest bases and recovered armrests), and looking really good, the only person to see it in this state is me, when I go to the garage!

So how was the meet? Do you have pics you can share? Regret that we missed it!

It was great! The ferry both ways, fantastic. It rained all the way from Musgegon MI to Lansing. (3 hrs on a two lane) We stopped for breakfast at the Red Rock (photo incl) Six 1960 Olds were at the meet. Two guys I never met, Dave Hall, TX(98 Conv) and a guy from Indiana (D88 Conv). We did a cruise on Friday eve to a place called Diamondale. Police escort, the town shut down the streets for us to park. Some food, live music etc. Nice. The show on Saturday was awesome. Your '62 would have felt right at home. There were a couple of 62 D88. Quite a few 61, 62 and 63s. Dinner was incredible. The banquet, well, long winded. The trip back was even nicer than going. I did take the main hwy. (70 MPH, yuk!)

It does sound as though you did indeed have a good time. That's great! From everything I have seen/heard it appears the show was run pretty well. Glad you enjoyed it.
