Greg is the guy you need to talk to...that's right along the lines of what he did with his. He stripped all the side trim off and painted it satin black. He also changed/added letters to the back so it says "BLUESMOBILE", which I thought was pretty cool. Black with red (or orange) steel wheels and maybe some baby moons is a popular look. When it comes to customizing, it's pretty much all about personal taste. There's a lot of magazines you can get inspiration from, like Deluxe...as long as you don't mind a lot of tattooed pinup girls
. Also check out the HAMB...I think there's actually at least a couple guys with '60s there. A lot of guys running Olds motors too.
Personally, I like my cars stock (or close to it), but I can appreciate a good custom. I'm kind of torn on the whole rat rod thing...on the one hand, I'm afraid it's a just another custom fad that will look really dated in 10 years... I remember when I was in junior high in the '80s I used to drool over all the pro-street 1st gen camaros and such that were a huge deal then. I can't help but wonder how many of those cars ended up having the tubs cut out and a standard floor welded back in
. Trends come and go, but a stock car will always look good. OTOH, the whole rad rodding scene is a little different, and I kind of think it gets back to the roots of what hot rodding was all about back the '40s and '50s...taking some old rusty heap and making something fun out of it. I know a guy who dragged the moldy remains of a '27 Chevy out of a field and is building a rat rod out of it...there wasn't enough left to restore it into anything, but it's making a good platform for a fun ride.
Anyway, I'll quit blabbering. Ultimately it's up to you... Look at lots of pics and find a combination that looks good. And be sure to post pics...everyone loves pics!!!
